Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) blocked a Senate resolution that would have protected the identities of whistleblowers and spared them from potential retaliation.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, joined by Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI), today went to the Senate floor to make a unanimous consent request to immediately pass S. Res. 408, a resolution expressing the sense of the Senate that Congress, the Executive Branch, and the president have a duty to protect the identity of whistleblowers and ensure that they are not retaliated against.
Senate Republican Rand Paul (R-KY) blocked the unanimous consent request to pass this resolution, which comes amid continued and increasing threats from the Trump administration to the intelligence community whistleblower and public calls for the exposure of the whistleblower’s identity both from members of Congress and the President of the United States.
Sen. Paul is one of Trump’s golfing buddies, and he recently spent election eve with Trump trying to browbeat the media into releasing the name of the Ukraine whistleblower.
Rand Paul blocking a move that would protect whistleblowers from retaliation from the government is perfectly in character for the pretend libertarian senator. Paul is showing that the Republican Party only has one principle and that is protecting Donald Trump at all costs. The resolution should have passed the Senate with no objections, but Trump’s corruption has quickly moved downstream to Republicans in the House and Senate.
The next time Sen. Paul starts rattling on with some pseudo-libertarian buzzwords, remember that he is also the same guy that wanted to make it easier for Trump to retaliate against whistleblowers.
