Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky is a walking version of just how far the Republican Party has fallen in the Donald Trump era of American politics, and he demonstrated that again at the president’s campaign rally on Monday night.
During a troubling moment at the rally, Sen. Paul said, “We also now know the name of the whistleblower.” He then demanded the media to print his or her name.
It was a deeply disturbing moment that once against demonstrated that the GOP is more loyal to Trump than they are to protecting the rule of law in the United States.

Sen. Paul said:
We also now know the name of the whistleblower. The whistleblower needs to come before Congress as a material witness because he worked for Joe Biden at the same time Hunter Biden was getting money from corrupt oligarchs. I say tonight to the media: Do your job and print his name!
Trump and the GOP are irrationally obsessed with the whistleblower
There are two things that Donald Trump and his Republican hacks in Congress and on Fox News forget as they attack the whistleblower’s credibility and demand that his or her name be released, as Rand Paul did on Monday night.
First, there is such a thing as the Whistleblower Protection Act that protects government officials who report constitutional violations like, say, bribing a foreign power for political help.
Second, as they use the whistleblower as a political punching bag, a growing number of witnesses who are current or former Trump administration officials have come forward validating the whistleblower complaint.
In other words, they can attempt to take down the whistleblower all they want by questioning his or her credibility or calling for them to be unlawfully exposed. But their attacks on the whistleblower will do nothing to change the damning testimony that’s been given in the weeks since that first whistleblower complaint became known to the public.
It’s time for the desperate president and his spineless Republican defenders to update their impeachment strategy.
