The House Votes To Lift 27 Million Americans Out Of Poverty With $15 Minimum Wage

House Democrats passed a bill on Thursday that would raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour and lift 27 million working Americans out of poverty.

For The First Time The House Has Voted To Raise The Minimum Wage to $15 an hour

It has taken minimum wage advocates seven years to get the Raise The Wage Act passed in the House. The final vote was 231-199. The bill had no Republican support in the House. The Raise The Wage Act would bump the minimum wage immediately up to $9.25 an hour and get it up to $15 an hour by 2024. The bill would tie the minimum wage to the median wage to stop the lowest-paid workers in our economy from being left behind. The impact of this legislation is that it would lift 27 million working Americans out of poverty.

Rep. Charlie Crist (D-FL) said after voting for the bill, “After the longest stretch in American history without a minimum wage increase, the People’s House struck a powerful blow in the Fight for 15. We’re the wealthiest country on Earth, working families holding full-time jobs should be able to afford the basic human necessities like food, housing, education, and healthcare. After more than 10 years without an increase in the minimum wage, it’s time to put working families first. Today’s vote will lift millions out of poverty, stimulate local economies, and help restore the value of a hard day’s work.”

If Democrats Take Back The Senate And White House A $15 Minimum Wage Will Happen

Bills like The Raise The Wage Act are vital because they lay the groundwork for the future. Speaker Pelosi is getting the legislation ready for post-Trump/McConnell America. It doesn’t matter if the Senate will pass this bill and Trump will sign it now. If Democrats keep the House and take back the White House and Senate, Speaker Pelosi will have this legislation ready to be signed by a Democratic president.

When Trump won in 2016, Republicans had no plans. It is why they have gotten nothing done.

Speaker Pelosi is making plans, and if Democrats win in 2020, they will be ready to pounce and raise the minimum wage to $15/hour.
