The Kavanaugh nomination is not a done deal as Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) voted no on the move to a final vote on confirming Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Murkowski voted no:
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) was the only Democratic yes vote on moving forward, but Manchin will not be the vote to put Kavanaugh over the top. Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) both voted yes on moving the nomination forward.
Republicans are sticking with investigating sexual assault equals McCarthyism:
Sen. Dianne Feinstein said that Kavanaugh had not earned a place on the Supreme Court:
If Flake or Collins decide to vote no, Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination will fail. Collins is announcing her decision at 3 PM ET. Jeff Flake is still having serious doubts and issues with supporting Kavanaugh, so this is going to come down to the wire. There will be 30 more hours of debate with a final vote expected on Saturday.
It is possible, even likely, that the Senate splits 50-50 and Vice President Mike Pence casts the tie-breaking vote. Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination is moving forward, but it is far from a sure thing that Trump’s nominee will be confirmed.
