House Democrats Unveil Game Changing Better Deal To Protect Workers From Trumpism

House Democrats have unveiled a visionary plan that would protect and expand worker rights at a time when Trumpism is out to destroy middle-class America to cut taxes for the uber rich.

The plan titled A Better Deal will:

For decades the playing field has been tilted away from workers. It doesn’t matter if a worker belongs to a union or not, the assault on private sector unions has lowered wages for all workers.

A 2016 paper from the Economic Policy Institute found, “Union decline has exacerbated wage inequality in the United States by dampening the pay of nonunion workers as well as by eroding the share of workers directly benefitting from unionization. Earlier research (Western and Rosenfeld 2011) shows that union erosion can explain about one-third of the growth of wage inequality among men and about one-fifth of the growth of wage inequality among women from 1972 to 2007. At least for middle-wage men, the impact of the erosion of unions on the wages of both union and nonunion workers is likely the largest single factor underlying wage stagnation and wage inequality.”

The best way to combat income inequality is to do what the House Democrats are proposing. A strong labor movement that protects worker rights leads to higher wages for all workers. Making the penalties more severe for companies that violate the law while also making it easier for employees to unionize is the path toward high wages and reducing income equality.

Donald Trump talks about creating “good jobs,” but he never states what those jobs are, how much they will pay, or if workers will be able to keep them.

Trump and the Republicans make vague promises to workers out of one side of their mouth as they gut worker rights and cut taxes for the wealthy with the other. They don’t provide actual policy details, with Speaker Paul Ryan even saying he won’t get into the details of this tax overhaul he was hoping to pass this week.

Unlike Republicans, the House Democrats have a detailed policy plan that will be voted on if they take back the House in 2018.

The fake populism of Trump’s jobs talk just met the reality of a better deal.

American workers don’t have to settle for the Republican used car salesman hustle. There is a better deal on the table, and all it needs is one midterm election victory to get closer to being a reality.
