The President of the United States wasn’t done inappropriately tweeting after the horrific terrorist attack in London killed at least seven people and left 48 wounded.
Donald Trump woke up early Sunday morning and continued his politicization of the terrorist attack, using it to sell his “travel ban” while lashing out at our ally by hitting London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan.
“At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!'” Trump tweeted Sunday morning.
President Trump took Khan’s words out of context in order to use him as a scapegoat to sell his ridiculous notion that somehow Trump is better at national security than the Mayor of London, when Trump has told the Russians national security secrets in his own Oval office.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan told Londoners not to cower in the face of the terrorist attack, but instead to vote. He also said they would see an increased police presence in the city, but not to panic.
“We must stop being politically correct and get down to the business of security for our people. If we don’t get smart it will only get worse,” Trump tweeted this morning.
As of this writing, and certainly when Trump tweeted this, the details regarding who the terrorists were and where they lived is not and was not publicly known. So either Trump is leaking again, or he is assuming in order to use the terrorist attack to further his own agenda, specifically his “Muslim ban”.
Furthermore, nothing in Trump’s plans addresses the “security” of the people. Republicans keep lying about how Syrian refugees were being vetted under President Obama, as well as Obama’s immigration policy focusing on getting the criminals out of the country. Trump’s ban on people from Muslim countries would not keep us safer. That is exactly what the terrorists want. They want to bring America down, to kill the dream of the welcoming American shores. By giving the terrorists what they want, Trump is actually incentivizing terrorism, although his goals seem more aligned with Russia’s, but the end result is the same – a weakened west that shows the extremists they were right and they are better than the west.
Last night, Donald Trump showed us all how he would handle a terrorist attack by responding to the London Bridge attack with a demand for his “Muslim ban” — before he knew who carried out the London attack. That’s not ignoring political correctness, that’s being dangerously ignorant. The facts matter.
Trump put the cherry on his use of a tragedy to further politicize it by making a strange argument for the NRA. Sure, seven people are dead and over 30 taken to hospital for wounds, but Trump wants you to focus on the fact that the terrorists didn’t use guns:
There are many kinds of terror. Terrorism is the use of fear and intimidation for a political purpose. Sometimes that terrorism is physical, but it doesn’t have to be. The people who gain the most from terrorism are those who use it to further their own political agenda, not the terrorists who carry out the acts.
The President of the United States used a terrorist attack to justify his “Muslim ban” before he even knew who was involved and again this morning before it was publicly known. He then lashed out at our ally, by slamming London’s Mayor, who is a member of the Labour Party, while not including the conservative Prime Minister Theresa May – who is up for re-election in days.
Khan is also the first Muslim to become the mayor of a major Western capital.
Donald Trump is a dangerously reckless person who is not fit to be the President of the United States. Trump not only did this publicly, but showed off his small-minded, selfish pettiness in picking just the Mayor to attack.
Everything is political. Everything is an opportunity to “win”. Everything is up for “grabs”.
