Less than two weeks ago, the right attempted to get Stephen Colbert thrown off the air. Their boycott efforts backfired, and now Colbert is replacing David Letterman on The Late Show.
The right took a Colbert sketch out of context in order to whip up some outrage in their attempt to get the Comedy Central host fired.

As I wrote at the time, “Colbert was using humor to show how Redskins owner Daniel Snyder is trying to buy off Native Americans who are trying to get the team to change their name by creating a foundation. Colbert used his character Ching-Chong Ding-Dong to lampoon the racism and behavior that the right use so often. Of course, the right responded by doing what it does best. They took everything out of context, and demanded that The Colbert Report be canceled.”
Michelle Malkin led the Twitter charge of righties who were trying to get the show canceled, but instead of getting the axe, Colbert got a promotion. There was a time not long ago when the collective stomping of even a few right wing feet would cause the networks to bow down and beg for mercy.

This whole crazed and dazed episode demonstrated that the right is awful at boycotts. CBS didn’t care about their faux outrage. Their howls meant nothing.
Stephen Colbert will be off of Comedy Central sometime in early 2015, but this isn’t what the right wingers had in mind. Colbert is moving on to an even bigger platform, as the message is reaffirmed that America is not a conservative nation.
