Never content to leave well enough alone, Sarah Palin took to her Facebook page to blame the mainstream and Washington media for the criticism that she has gotten for resigning. Palin also stated that the media is holding her to a different standard than other politicians.
On her Facebook page, Palin wrote, “The response in the main stream media has been most predictable, ironic, and as always, detached from the lives of ordinary Americans who are sick of the “politics of personal destruction”. How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it’s about country. And though it’s honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make. But every American understands what it takes to make a decision because it’s right for all, including your family.”
As if it needed to be spelled out, Palin made it clear that she is probably going to run for president, “I shared with you yesterday my heartfelt and candid reasons for this change; I’ve never thought I needed a title before one’s name to forge progress in America. I am now looking ahead and how we can advance this country together with our values of less government intervention, greater energy independence, stronger national security, and much-needed fiscal restraint. I hope you will join me. Now is the time to rebuild and help our nation achieve greatness!”
Why is it that when Palin gets criticized, she always hides behind her family? Unless her “higher calling” is to stay home and be with her family, this decision wasn’t about them. The higher calling is obviously a run for president. She would have gotten a lot less criticism if she would have given a reason why she is resigning. This whole coy game of guess the motive is making her look amateurish.
Newsflash: any incumbent who resigns from office during their first term in order to run for a higher office faces criticism, because they reneged on a promise that they made to the voters when they first asked for their vote. Sarah Palin’s actions are being motivated by political ambition, nothing more. The reaction to her announcement would have been better, if she wasn’t making such a clear attempt to stay in the spotlight.
Palin and her advisers need to understand that this media is against us stuff plays well with those who support her, but that she will need media coverage is she is going to be a serious presidential candidate in 2012. Almost all politicians have an adversarial relationship with the media, but Palin can’t win a campaign by running against the media. In the end it is Palin herself, not the media, which is to blame for this bizarre sideshow.
