Republican Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND) grudgingly admitted on Fox News Sunday that Senate Republicans don’t have the votes needed to override President Obama’s expected veto of a bill authorizing the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
Senate Republicans have the 60 votes that they need to initially pass the Keystone XL pipeline, but they don’t have the votes needed to overcome an Obama veto, and they lack a clear Plan B to get the pipeline authorized.
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced on CBS’s Face The Nation that Senate Democrats have enough votes to sustain the widely expected veto that President Obama will issue after Republicans pass a bill authorizing the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
Without issuing a formal veto threat, the White House is making it clear that if Congress passes a bill approving construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, President Obama will veto it.
