Opposition to Chuck Hagel is a No-Win Scenario for the GOP
There is no conceivable outcome in which GOP opposition to Chuck Hagel ends happily for Republicans
There is no conceivable outcome in which GOP opposition to Chuck Hagel ends happily for Republicans
Things have gotten so bad for Chick-fil-A and the right that Republicans are calling upon their conservative LGBTQ members in the Log Cabin to save them.
Mitt Romney prefers right wing casino dollars to voters, and Donald Trump’s bad haired birtherism to gay haired high school kids.
There are many reasons to vote for Barack Obama in 2012, and very few to vote against him, given the alternatives
Theocracy is coming to with a GOP win in 2012: they have made their position clear enough and it becomes more pronounced with each new bill
The Republican assault on American liberties has continued in 2012 with continued emphasis on the reproductive rights of women and women’s health
Jeffrey T. Kuhner of the Edmund Burke Institute, who last year accused President Obama of having “black nationalist sympathies” (whatever those are) wrote a column for the Washington Times on February 23, which he entitled Obama’s pseudo-religion, arguing that the “President’s secular moves” are “out of step with Judeo-Christian culture.” His claim is that “Mr. Obama is…
As we enter 2012 the GOP’s campaign to save America from non-existent problems rather than to create jobs shows no signs of abating
With no signs of abating. Republican legislatures are if anything more eager than ever to press their rights-killing agenda for America and Americans
The GOP’s hate-inspired position will haunt them on Election Day if they continue promising to deny gay Americans equal rights.
The Dirty Thirty Year-End edition is a recap of legislation, local, state and federal, the GOP is using to destroy America
1600 Pennsylvania Ave was busy this week; you’d almost think Santa came with his bag full of goodies for the American people. In spite of threats of Republican obstructionism and Democratic betrayal, the President and the legislators managed to make this Christmas one to celebrate for a variety of reasons even as our country struggles under the slow economy and resulting job losses. This was indeed the Lame Duck that roared for the People.
Jeff Sessions denounced ACLU DNA on the Senate floor, and with it, the very idea of the civil liberties the ACLU defends, and which our constitution guarantees.
The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission has proven it is all about defamation with its attack on the repeal of DADT, threatening Divine punishment for America.
On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh accused anyone who celebrated the repeal of DADT of hating the military. Limbaugh asked, “By the way, isn’t it revealing my friends, the same people who have only shown hatred and contempt for the US military are the ones celebrating Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell as a great historic accomplishment?”
Repealing DADT is a civil rights issue and nothing more. It is not about imposing social change on the country and is not an attack on any religion or the family. The senators and opponents of repealing DADT are attacking the civil rights of every American, and are attempting to impose their bible-based radical agenda on all Americans. Now that the Congress has repealed DADT, maybe they can repeal religion that imposes bigotry on America.
Rachel Maddow was on MSNBC providing analysis of the Senate’s vote to repeal DADT, when she pointed out that today’s vote is a huge victory President Obama, and one that the base should reward him for. Maddow said, “This was a difficult promise to keep, not just a promise kept, it was one that was hard to keep that cost a lot of political capital and a lot of work, and this is the President’s victory and his base will reward him for it.”
President Obama’s tax compromise passed Thursday with a 277 to 14 (139 Democrats and 138 Republicans voting aye). The Senate passed the legislation Wednesday.
People like Sen. John McCain will always find bigots like himself who object to gays existing, much less serving in the military. A couple of days ago McCain came up with another objection, he said he and 41 of his Republican colleagues would block repeal because the economy is sputtering. He really said it and he was serious. He’s also a raging bigot who cannot escape the biblical foundation of hate he espouses.
At battle’s end, Phillip looked upon the dead of the Sacred Band and said, “Perish any man who suspects that these men either did or suffered anything unseemly.”
You can search and search; you can look high and low, but you won’t find much. Right now, the closest thing the Republicans seem to have to a real policy is orchestrating a win for Bristol on DWTS.
John McCain is a war hero, and advocates permanent wars regardless the cost in lives and drain on the economy. He also knows that allowing gays to serve in the military is wrong, regardless that a majority of Americans, the Pentagon, and service members support repealing DADT. McCain also doesn’t want an end to the war in Afghanistan because he has gross memory loss regarding the Iraq war.
Now that Democrats in Congress are in a lame duck session, they have one more opportunity to take a stand for the American people before Republicans give America to the corporate world. Republicans have been upfront about their intentions to shut down the government and remove safety nets across the board so they can give tax cuts to the rich.
Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly was on The Tonight Show last night where revealed that he seems to have changed his position on Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. When asked about it by Jay Leno, Bill-O said, “Just sign an executive order. I don’t know why it’s taking so long.” Good Lord, even O’Reilly is further to the left than Obama on this one.
