MSNBC Fires Tiffany Cross And There Is Already Speculation Jen Psaki Could Replace Her

MSNBC abruptly decided not to renew the contract of Tiffany Cross and canceled her show The Cross Connection immediately. It is being speculated that Jen Psaki could take over her time slot.

Variety reported:

There has been speculation that Cross’ relationship with MSNBC was becoming frayed, according to two of these people, with executives at the network growing concerned about the anchor’s willingness to address statements made by cable-news hosts on other networks and indulging in commentary executives felt did not meet the standards of MSNBC or NBC News.

MSNBC has many options for her Saturday hours. The network has yet to announce a place for Jen Psaki, the former White House Press Secretary who is slated to launch a new program on cable and streaming in months to come.

Tiffany Cross was different. Her show was different. It didn’t feature the same white faces and correspondents from The New York Times and Washington Post in each segment.

The show was also a hit with women and African-American viewers.

Cross was the sort of host that makes cable networks uncomfortable. Remember, no matter how they brand themselves, the cable networks are all owned by big corporations whose only objective is to make money, so hosts should not rock the boat too much.

Here is Cross calling Megyn Kelly a “blackface expert:”

Here is Cross talking about corporate profits driving inflation from her final show:

The speculation is going to be there about Jen Psaki for every MSNBC opening, and the network does have a history of starting its hosts out on weekends, so while it is possible that they may throw Psaki into the deep end with a 2 hour Saturday morning slot, I wouldn’t count on it.

Tiffany Cross brought the sort of women and African-American viewers that MSNBC claims to want. Her biggest sin, according to her supporters, was that she told too much truth, which got her fired from MSNBC.

Cross is the third host this week to lose a show on cable news.
