One America News (OAN) has been dropped by Verizon who was their last major television carrier.
Verizon said in a statement:
Our negotiation with OAN has been a typical, business-as-usual carriage negotiation like those that routinely happen between content distributors and content providers. These negotiations were focused on economics, as they always are, but OAN failed to agree to fair terms.
Since we were unable to reach an agreement, effective July 31, 2022, we will no longer have the rights to provide our customers with this programming, and it will be removed from the Fios TV lineup.
Our company has long advocated for providing customers with the ability to choose what content they want to watch, and our Fios TV platform offers a wide and diverse choice of programming options, including a la carte options, that strive to meet our millions of customers’ various content needs and preferences.
OAN is still on cable TV in Alaska and has been trying to reinvent itself as a subscription streaming service, but it is being sued for voting machine lies by Dominion Voting systems, and without the power to reach millions of Americans through television deals, the network is destined to fade away, as Republicans are unlikely to spend $5/month for OAN when they can Newsmax and Fox News on television as part of their regular package.
The departure of Verizon Fios looks like the end of the line for OAN, which was Trump’s favorite network as his administration would often call on OAN for softballs at briefings.
OAN is banished to streaming, and the American news culture just got a little brighter.
