Mitch McConnell May Screw America and Blow Off Trump Trial

Last updated on July 18th, 2023 at 11:54 am

Mitch McConnell wants a quick impeachment trial that may involve nothing more than the Senate holding votes on the two House articles of Trump impeachment.

Reuters reported:

McConnell stressed in remarks to reporters that no decisions had been made on how a trial would proceed if the House approves articles of impeachment against Trump. McConnell said any trial would begin with House Democrats making their case for finding Trump guilty, followed by White House lawyers arguing for an acquittal.

At that point, McConnell said, the Senate “could go down the path of calling witnesses and basically having another trial.”

Or, he said, 51 senators could come together, which would be a majority of the 100 senators, and decide “that they’ve heard enough and they believe they know what would happen and could move to vote on the two articles of impeachment sent over to us by the House.”

Trump wants a full and long Senate impeachment trial. Mitch McConnell wants to get the impeachment trial over with as quickly as possible. Politically, McConnell is right. It would be best for Republicans not to drag out the impeachment trial. However, Trump is adamant that he wants a full trial with Joe Biden testifying on the Senate floor.

Mitch McConnell doesn’t want to bring more danger to his vulnerable incumbent Senate Republicans. Donald Trump doesn’t care about the damage that a trial could to the Republican Party. He wants to watch himself being defended in the Senate.

McConnell wants to blow off the whole trial, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the Majority Leader gets his way, and Trump’s impeachment trial ends up being a quick sham that ends in the blink of an eye.
