Republicans Throw A Tantrum And Write Bogus Impeachment Report

Last updated on September 25th, 2023 at 02:32 pm

House Republicans will release a bogus report on impeachment that claims that Trump was behaving in an apolitical way, and was trying to fight corruption.

Via The New York Times:
House Republicans plan to argue that President Trump was acting on “genuine and reasonable” skepticism of Ukraine and “valid” concerns about possible corruption involving Americans, not political self-interest, when he pressed the country for investigations of his Democratic rivals, according to a draft of a report laying out their impeachment defense.

In a 123-page document that echoes the defiant messaging that Mr. Trump has employed in his own defense, the Republicans do not concede a single point of wrongdoing or hint of misbehavior by the president, according to a copy reviewed by The New York Times ahead of its planned release on Tuesday.

…..

“The Democrats’ impeachment inquiry is not the organic outgrowth of serious misconduct; it is an orchestrated campaign to upend our political system,” the Republicans wrote. “The Democrats are trying to impeach a duly elected president based on the accusations and assumptions of unelected bureaucrats who disagreed with President Trump’s policy initiatives and processes.”

House Republicans led by the likes of Rep. Devin Nunes and Jim Jordan are going to release a report that echoes Trump’s tantrums and denials while ignoring the thousands of pages of evidence and witness testimony that have been collected against the president.

The report will be a bogus political document that is intended to muddy the waters and repeats Trump’s nonsensical impeachment strategy. House Republicans could save themselves a lot of wasted time and energy by releasing a report that solely consists of the sentence, “The Ukraine call was perfect.”

Trump was trying to create more corruption in Ukraine, not stop it. The claim that Trump withheld vital military aid was debunked by Pentagon testimony that the aid had already cleared the corruption review months before Trump blocked its release.

The Republican spin has already failed and the GOP has been reduced to putting Trump’s tantrums and excuses on paper and calling it a “report,” that will make Donald Trump happy, but do nothing to counter the mountain of evidence against this president.
