Obama Delivers A Rousing Rejection Of Trump During Eulogy For Elijah Cummings

Former President Obama rejected Trumpism while eulogizing Rep. Elijah Cummings by saying that kindness and integrity are not weaknesses.

Obama said:

It has been remarked that Elijah was a kind man I tell my daughters and I have to say listening to Elijah’s daughter speak, that got me choked up. I am sure those of you have sons feel the same way, but there is something about daughters and their fathers. I was thinking I want my daughters to know how much I love them but I also want them to know being a strong man includes being kind. There is nothing weak about kindness and compassion. There is nothing by looking out for others.

There is nothing weak about being honorable. You are not a sucker to have integrity. And to treat others with respect. I was sitting here and I was just noticing the honorable Elijah E. Cummings, and you know this is a title that we confer on all kinds of people who get elected to public office. We are supposed to introduce them as honorable but — but Elijah Cummings was honorable before he was elected office. There is a difference. There is a difference if you were honorable and treated others honorably. Outside the limelight, on the side of the road, in a quiet moment counseling somebody you work with, let your daughters know you love them.

President Obama eulogized a kind and decent man, and in the process reminded America about the importance of treating others with kindness and respect. Donald Trump thinks cruelty is a strength, but Obama showed that the stronger person is one who is capable of being kind and decent. As the former president said, integrity doesn’t make a person a sucker.

Integrity makes a person decent and trusted to do the right thing.

Obama’s eulogy was a remembrance of Elijah Cummings and could also be viewed as a total rejection of Donald Trump.
