Impeachment Investigation Expands With Pentagon And OMB Subpoenas

The impeachment investigation has subpoenaed the Pentagon and the Office of Management and Budget for documents related to Trump’s call with Ukraine.

Rep. Adam Schiff, the Chairman of the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Rep. Eliot L. Engel, the Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, sent a letter to Department of Defense (DOD) Secretary Mark Esper and a letter to Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Acting Director Russell Vought, “The enclosed subpoena demands documents that are necessary for the Committees to examine this sequence of these events and the reasons behind the White House’s decision to withhold critical military assistance to Ukraine that was appropriated by Congress to counter Russian aggression.”

The OMB and DOD have until October 15 to turn over the documents.

House Democrats are building their case for Trump impeachment over the Ukraine call. Democrats are looking for official documents, notes, and talking points related to the decision to withhold aid from Ukraine and the subsequent cover-up of the phone call pressuring Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden.

The impeachment investigation is moving quickly, and while Democrats likely have enough evidence to impeach Trump right now, it is important to build a solid case, because this matter will go to the Senate. No matter how Mitch McConnell tries to rig the rules of the impeachment trial, House Democrats want to hand their colleagues and the American people the best case possible.
