A disheveled looking and manic sounding Trump admitted that he tried to get Ukraine to “investigate” former vice president Joe Biden.
Trump said:
We had a great conversation. It was largely congratulatory. It was largely corruption — you will corruption taking place. Largely the fact that we don’t want our people like vice president Biden and his son creating to the corruption already in the Ukraine. And Ukraine has got a lot of problems. The new president is saying that he is going to be able to rid the country of corruption.
And I said that would be a great we had a great conversation. We had a conversation on many things. In fact, I believe Ukraine put out a statement yesterday saying we covered many different topics. It was a warm and friendly conversation. I backed them from the beginning. I’m upset other countries aren’t doing the same. Germany should be much more, France, all the European Union should be spending money. Why are we spending money and they’re not? Or at least they’re spending very little by comparison. So I’m not happy about that.

Later, Trump lost it on a reporter who asked him the very logical question of why he was talking about the Bidens in a conversation with Ukraine’s president. There was no reason for Trump to be discussing his potential 2020 opponent with a foreign leader. There was also no reason for Trump to be talking about Biden and corruption the president of Ukraine unless he was trying to get the president to help to collude with him on a smear against the former vice president.
Judging by Trump’s appearance and behavior, the president is in a desperate state, and he is manically trying to get himself out of trouble while spinning a bogus Biden conspiracy theory. Ukraine has found no evidence the Joe Biden did anything wrong, but as Trump gets more frantic, he is going to lean in on repeating this fake corruption claim over and over again until the 2020 election.
