Trump’s TV lawyer Rudy Giuliani confirmed that Trump is illegally using the State Department to do opposition research on his potential Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.
President Donald Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani confirmed Thursday that the State Department assisted his efforts to press the Ukrainian government to probe two prominent Democratic opponents of the president: former Vice President Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee.
Specifically, Giuliani has wanted Ukrainian officials to look into any impropriety related to the former vice president’s push to crack down on corruption in Ukraine and his son Hunter Biden’s involvement in a natural gas company there. Giuliani also sought to have Ukraine examine whether the Democratic National Committee worked in connection with Ukrainian officials to harm Trump’s 2016 campaign by releasing damaging information on the president’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort.
It is illegal for a president to use taxpayer resources to assist in his reelection campaign. It isn’t a gray area or something that is up for debate in the judiciary. What Trump and Giuliani did was flat out against the law. However, since the illegality would be handled by Trump’s hand-picked Attorney General Bill Barr, the circle has been closed.
Should Joe Biden be the nominee, he has going have to run against the power of the executive branch of the federal government, foreign governments like Russia and Saudi Arabia interfering on Trump’s behalf, and the Republican Party.
All of this still might not be enough to get Trump reelected, as Democrats have some factors on their side as well, including three Democratic governors in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania who are going to make sure that every vote gets counted.
Voters should prepare themselves for a reelection campaign where the incumbent is not only going to play dirty, but he is going to break the law.
Democrats and every non-Trump voter are going to have to fight with every breath because Donald Trump isn’t going to make it easy or go legally into that good night.
