Trump name has been invoked in 36 criminal cases involving violence, threats of violence, or assault, which is 36 more than Obama or Bush.
ABC News investigated and found:
A nationwide review conducted by ABC News has identified at least 36 criminal cases where Trump was invoked in direct connection with violent acts, threats of violence or allegations of assault.
In nine cases, perpetrators hailed Trump in the midst or immediate aftermath of physically attacking innocent victims. In another 10 cases, perpetrators cheered or defended Trump while taunting or threatening others. And in another 10 cases, Trump and his rhetoric were cited in court to explain a defendant’s violent or threatening behavior.
Seven cases involved violent or threatening acts perpetrated in defiance of Trump, with many of them targeting Trump’s allies in Congress. But the vast majority of the cases — 29 of the 36 — reflect someone echoing presidential rhetoric, not protesting it.
Trump has been claiming that his racism is uniting America when his administration; is trying to pin the blame for mass shootings on Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi.
Presidential words have a wide reach. Trump has proven to be an inspirational figure in American politics. Unfortunately, the people who are being inspired by Trump are mentally ill racists and bigots who are using Trump’s division and hate speech as validation for their actions.
Donald Trump is not a private citizen. He is not entitled to a First Amendment right to broadcast his racist views on Twitter. Trump is the top government official in the land and he is using the platform of the presidency to broadcast racism.
Of course, the president is inspiring violence, because unlike Bush and Obama, fear and the threat of violence are vital pieces of Trump’s political strategy.
