Trump Throws 3 Million Kids, Seniors, and Disabled Americans Off Food Stamps

The Trump administration changed an enrollment rule and the result is that 3 million hungry Americans will lose their food stamps.

Bloomberg News reported:
The Trump administration is moving to end food stamp benefits for 3 million people with proposed new regulations curtailing the leeway of states to automatically enroll residents who receive welfare benefits.

Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said state governments “have misused this flexibility.”

“We are changing the rules, preventing abuse of a critical safety net system, so those who need food assistance the most are the only ones who receive it,” he added.

Abuse of the system is the boogeyman that Republicans always used to justify cuts tom programs for the poor and needy.

Food stamps help millions of low-income veterans and seniors

Most food stamp benefits go to low-income white people, but the Trump administration will also be cutting food assistance for low-income veterans. 1.4 million low-income vets receive food stamps. Additionally, millions of poor senior citizens receive SNAP benefits. 4.8 million seniors are on SNAP. SNAP also helps 20 million children a month eat.

Republicans aren’t eliminating fraud waste and abuse. They are harming the elderly, disabled, and children.

The Trump tax cuts for the wealthy haven’t paid for themselves, so kids in America will go hungry because corporations were given a tax cut.
