House To Vote Today On Impeaching Donald Trump

The House will vote on Wednesday afternoon on articles of impeachment that were filed by Rep. Al Green (D-TX) related to Trump’s fitness for office.

Rep. Green announced that he would be filing his articles of impeachment against Trump in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA on Tuesday, “I will read articles of impeachment on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives before the close of the business today. To condemn a racist President is not enough, we must impeach him. This will be a defining vote. The world is watching, and history will judge us all.”

This is the third time that Rep. Green has filed his articles of impeachment, but it is the first time that he will get a vote with Democrats running the House.

As NBC News’ Kelly O’Donnell explained there are three possible paths of action on Green’s impeachment articles, “We expect the vote to come this afternoon as a three-part choice for members of congress. To table the motion, which would mean they would really put it aside and not act with it. Go forward, sending this resolution to the Judiciary Committee where all things impeachment would be decided as a first step in the process. Or originate impeachment proceedings broadly.”

Video of O’Donnell:

Speaker Pelosi opposes Green’s resolution, so the House will not be launching broad impeachment proceedings against Trump today, but it will be interesting to see how many House Democrats vote for impeachment and where the party stands right now. Green’s resolution will shine a big bright spotlight on Trump’s unfitness for office, and the keep the attention squarely on Donald Trump’s behavior, which is the last thing that Republicans want.
