Democratic Senate candidate Amy McGrath is expected to shatter fundraising records by bringing $10 million in the first week of her campaign.
Politico reported, “Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has raised $11.2 million for his reelection since 2015, including more than $3 million in the second quarter of this year. McConnell has $7.9 million cash on hand. The McConnell team expects AMY MCGRATH to raise as much as $10 million in the first week of her candidacy.”
McGrath raised $2.5 million in the first 24 hours of her campaign, and Democratic Senators are fundraising for her.
Sens. Chris Murphy (CT) and Tammy Duckworth (IL) have sent out fundraising letters:
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker is also fundraising for McGrath:
Mitch McConnell is unpopular in Kentucky, but he is going to join himself at the hip to Trump, who remains popular in the state. There is going to be a lot for McGrath to overcome to win. She is going to have to convince Trump voters to support her over McConnell in a state that doesn’t usually split its Senate and presidential votes.
The key number to keep in mind is Trump’s approval rating in the state. Trump’s Kentucky approval rating has declined by 19 points but remains at 56%. If Trump approval goes underwater in Kentucky, it will help McGrath win.
The path to victory is narrow, but Amy McGrath will have money and everything she needs to take on Mitch McConnell.
