Trump claimed that his own internal polls are fake and that he is winning in every single state ahead of the 2020 election.
Trump said:
We have great internal because we have great internal polling. There were fake polls that were released by somebody that is — it’s ridiculous. No, we are winning in every single state that we’ve polled. We’re winning in Texas very big. We’re winning in Ohio very big. We’re winning in Florida very big. There were fake polls that were put out by the corrupt media because much of the media in this country is corrupt, I have to tell you that, Mr. President, some is excellent, but some is very bad. You know when you’re going to see that? You’re going to see that on election day. It was the same thing — I had the same thing for — I had the same thing for a long period of time in 2016.
I was getting these terrible poll numbers and I didn’t see it. Because I would have tremendous crowds and my opponent would have almost nobody. And I said I think we’re going to win the state of Michigan, we did. I think we’re going to win the state of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and we won them all. They’re giving out phony polls. These are polls that we have that nobody saw. We do very little polling because I’m not a huge believer in polling. I think you go out there and fight and you don’t need polls. You need ideas more than polls. But we have some internal polling, very little, and it’s unbelievably strong. The strongest I’ve ever been is exactly today.

Trump’s comments line up perfectly with reporting that Trump thinks that the 2020 election will be just like 2016, and is refusing to listen to his own advisers. Anyone who has spent time in Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania can tell you that Donald Trump is not winning in these states. Notice that the president referred to the Rust Belt states in terms of 2016, but he pointed to the much redder states of Ohio, Florida, and Texas as places where he is winning.
A Republican should be winning in Texas, which hasn’t elected a Democrat statewide in more than 20 years.
