By a margin of 56%-33%, voters oppose the anti-choice laws being passed in red states like Alabama and Georgia.
A new Politico/Morning Consult Poll found:
– A quarter of voters say abortion should be legal in most circumstances except for when the fetus is viable outside of the womb, 22% say it should be legal in
all circumstances, 31% say it should be illegal in most circumstances except in cases of rape, incest, or when mother’s life is at risk and 11% say it should be
illegal in all circumstances.
– Republicans (45%) are most likely to say it should be illegal in most circumstances while Democrats (34%) are more likely to say it should be legal in all circumstances.
– A majority of voters (56%) oppose the anti-abortion legislation in Georgia and Alabama, 33% support
By catering to their extremist red state base, Republicans have taken a position on abortion that has turned settled law into a national issue that they are on the wrong side of in 2020. Just like on healthcare, the Republicans have handed Democrats an issue to beat them with in 2020. While our current partisan political divides tilt toward the extremes, America is not an extremist country.
Republicans will pay a price for the actions. The national protests are only the beginning. The price will be paid in full at polling places around the country on November 3, 2020.
