Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX) voted last week against protecting patients with preexisting conditions, so Democrat Gina Ortiz Jones, who lost to Hurd by 926 votes is challenging him again.
KSAT 12 reported:
Her campaign claims Rep. Will is “out of touch with Texas families after years spent prioritizing his political career in D.C. over the interests of his constituents”.
“But I’ve never been one to back down, because the promise of our country is worth fighting for,” Ortiz Jones said. “It’s why I joined the military and deployed to Iraq, it’s why I served in President Obama’s administration, and it’s why I’ve dedicated my life to public service. And it’s why I’m stepping up again to run for Texas’ 23rd Congressional District. Join us as we finish what we started.”
It is no coincidence that Jones entered the race, the week after Rep. Hurd did this:
Hurd barely hung on to beat Jones by 926 votes in 2018. He apparently didn’t learn his lesson, because he immediately betrayed Americans with preexisting conditions. Jones will be a tough challenge for Hurd, and with the unpopular Trump at the top of the ticket for Republicans in Texas, it is possible, maybe even likely that Hurd voted himself out of Congress when he voted not to protect people with preexisting conditions.
Republicans who vote against healthcare will pay the price in November.
