In an attack that was somewhere between clueless and bonkers, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) went after comedian Patton Oswalt for supporting his Democratic opponent MJ Hegar.
Cornyn tweeted:
A couple of quick things need to be pointed out. Patton Oswalt isn’t running for the US Senate in Texas. Patton Oswalt is a comedian who sometimes uses naughty grown-up words while telling jokes. John Cornyn is the second highest ranking Senator in the Republican majority behind Majority Leader McConnell.
MJ Hegar nearly lost a House race is more than (+20) Republican district. She is a former fighter pilot and one of the rising stars in the Texas Democratic Party. She also referred to Cornyn as, “that tall guy lurching behind Mitch McConnell in basically every single video,” in the video for her Senate campaign launch.

John Cornyn besides being McConnell’s Gary from Veep is also 67 years old and has been in the Senate since 2002. In a clear sign that the Cornyn campaign has no idea what to do when running against a 43-year-old female veteran, they have pulled the Hollywood liberal attack out of mothballs. The problem is that Hegar has no connection to Hollywood, so the Cornyn folks attacked Oswalt instead, but he likes Hegar, and any politician who gets support from a celebrity has obviously gone Hollywood, says the party that is being run by a reality TV star.
Donald Trump is not popular in Texas, and the Cornyn folks are already losing their minds over having an engaging opponent who could actually be the first Democrat to win statewide in Texas in decades.
It is not even 2020 yet, but the Republican fear is already showing in Texas.
