Trump’s Approval Rating Hits Lowest Point Of 2019 After Release Of Redacted Mueller Report

Following the release of Robert Mueller’s redacted report, Donald Trump’s approval rating has tumbled to the lowest point this year.

According to a Reuters/Ipsos survey released on Friday, just 37 percent of the American people approve of the president’s job performance.

The weak showing for Trump is a three-point drop in his approval in just four days and a six-point drop from the same poll taken after attorney general William Barr released his four-page memo last month.

As The Hill pointed out on Saturday, this poll is the first to conducted after the American people have had some time to pour over Mueller’s redacted report.

Nearly half the country thinks Trump should resign

One particular finding in the survey that jumps out is that 47 percent of the country believes Trump should resign. Worse for Trump: the number who think he should not step down – 37 percent – dropped nine points since the report came out.

So while the American people are still split on the impeachment question – 40 percent for vs. 42 percent against, according to the poll – a pretty solid plurality thinks Trump should call it quits.

Translation: The American people are sick of this exhausting, toxic and corrupt administration. Instead of putting the country through a long and messy impeachment process – which the GOP will undermine anyway – the country would just prefer it if Trump left on his own accord.

William Barr’s stunt to protect Trump failed miserably

The key takeaway from the polling is that attorney general William Barr’s attempt to protect Trump by repeatedly whitewashing the Mueller report has been a failure.

Barr’s four-page memo in March and pre-release press conference on Thursday were meant to create a false narrative about the report that Trump was somehow clean.

“No obstruction, no collusion!”

But the American people know how to read, and the Mueller report showed evidence of both obstruction and collusion – some of it rather damning.

Just because some of it didn’t rise to the level of a crime and Mueller concluded he couldn’t charge a sitting president, it doesn’t mean the conduct is acceptable or ethical.

The Mueller report seems to have confirmed for a lot of Americans that Donald Trump is unfit to be president of the United States.
