Jerry Nadler Drops The Hammer And Subpoenas Full Mueller Report And Evidence By May 1

It took House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) less than a day to subpoena the full Mueller report and all evidence.

Democrats Take Action To Get The Full Mueller Report

Nadler said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:

I have issued a subpoena to the Department of Justice for the full version of the Mueller report and the underlying evidence. The Department is required to comply with that subpoena by May 1.

I am open to working with the Department to reach a reasonable accommodation for access to these materials, however I cannot accept any proposal which leaves most of Congress in the dark, as they grapple with their duties of legislation, oversight and constitutional accountability.

My Committee needs and is entitled to the full version of the report and the underlying evidence consistent with past practice. The redactions appear to be significant. We have so far seen none of the actual evidence that the Special Counsel developed to make this case. Even the redacted version of the report outlines serious instances of wrongdoing by President Trump and some of his closest associates. It now falls to Congress to determine the full scope of that alleged misconduct and to decide what steps we must take going forward.

Read the subpoena:

Barr has been called to testify before the Judiciary Committee on May 2, so if he refuses to comply with the subpoena, he will immediately have to answer to Congress.

The Battle For The Full Mueller Report Will Likely End Up In Court

There is a mountain of legal precedent on the side of House Democrats , so when this matter goes to court, look for the White House to lose. Winning and losing is the point from Trump and Barr’s view. The administration is trying to delay potential impeachment of this president by tying up the report in court and running out the clock until after the 2020 election.

Forget politics and optics. The issue is evidence that could potentially be used to impeach Trump for obstruction of justice.

The release of the redacted Mueller report wasn’t the end, but the beginning of a battle will dominate American politics for the next year.
