Trump and DeVos Proposed Cuts To Special Olympics Are Dead

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO), the subcommittee chairman who sets the funding levels for the Department of Education told reporters that Trump and Betsy DeVos’s proposed cuts to Special Olympics aren’t happening.

Here is what Sen. Blunt told reporters:

The Special Olympics Cuts Were A Budget Proposal, Not A Reality

Sec. of Education Betsy DeVos made it sound like the cuts were a done deal when she discussed them, but the cuts were only part of Trump’s budget proposal. They were part of the administration’s fantasy wish list. Just like the yearly effort by Republican presidents to get rid of NPR and PBS, these are pipe dreams that will never get through Congress. Republicans in Senate don’t want to cut Special Olympics, and there is no way that a Democratic House is going to pass a budget that will end funding for Special Olympics.

People got outraged over something that was never going to happen.

Trump’s desire to cut Special Olympics speaks volumes about how this administration views people with disabilities. This administration doesn’t care about the American people, and voters need to keep all these examples from the Special Olympics to Trump’s new move to kill Obamacare when they go to the polls next year.
