Beto O’Rourke Storms Ohio And Offers Support To The GM Workers That Trump Has Been Attacking

Last updated on March 21st, 2019 at 03:41 am

Newly minted presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke‘s whirlwind campaign rollout continued on Monday with a swing through Michigan and Ohio – two states key to winning the White House in 2020.

One stop, in particular, is likely to get under Donald Trump‘s ultra-thin skin.

In the Buckeye State, O’Rourke met with United Auto Workers 1112 President David Green in Lordstown, where one of General Motors‘ plants is set to close. Green, of course, has been one of the latest victims of Trump‘s Twitter tantrums.

Video of O’Rourke‘s visit with the UAW leader:

The two men discussed how the Republican tax legislation has hurt workers – like the 4,500 who were employed at the Lordstown plant – and they explored ways to bring back similarly struggling towns across the country.

Green told O’Rourke that encouraging companies to stay in the U.S. and invest in this country, instead of outsourcing jobs – which is what the GOP tax scam has incentivized – is the right prescription to help his union workers.

“I just want to tell you that so many of us around the country … are so proud of the way you conducted yourself,” O’Rourke told the union president, a stark contrast to the president’s attacks.

‘I want to show up everywhere’

Since announcing his candidacy last week, O’Rourke‘s presidential campaign has adopted the same effective strategies he used during his Texas Senate bid in 2018.

He drives to each of his campaign stops, he holds unscripted Facebook Live sessions and he isn’t afraid to go just about anywhere and meet just about anyone.

Despite what self-appointed Twitter pundits have said, it has been a successful kickoff for O’Rourke as he raised a stunning $6.1 million in his first 24 hours as a presidential candidate.

Beto O’Rourke has said that he wants to show up everywhere. Early in his campaign, he has certainly upheld that commitment.
