A House resolution condemning anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim, and other hated failed to pass unanimously as a group of Republicans voted for hate.
Every House Democrat voted for the resolution, but 23 Republicans voted no and one Republican voted present. (It was 26, but one Republican changed their vote).
Read the text of the resolution:
Here is how Speaker Pelosi described the resolution before the vote:
It should not have been a surprise that there are members of Trump’s Republican Party who would not oppose hatred and bigotry, but this is a symbolic resolution that is meant to show the opposition of the House of Representatives to hateful language. The votes don’t get much easier than this. Unless you are a Republican in Donald Trump’s party.
The Republican Party truly has become the party of hate under Donald Trump. A group of House Republicans were so afraid of deviating from the party line laid by Trump that they voted in favor of hatred and bigotry because they fear doing otherwise might get them a primary challenge.
The media has spent days hyping a “Democratic divide,” but as usual Democrats stood together, while Republicans couldn’t even agree that hatred and bigotry should be universally condemned.
Republicans have once again shown the country that they are a divided party of hate and division.
