House Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is going to investigate how Jared Kushner got his security clearance and Trump’s lies about it.

Rep. Schiff said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:

The revelation that President Trump personally intervened to overrule White House security officials and the Intelligence Community to grant a Top Secret security clearance to his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, is the latest indicator of the President’s utter disregard for our national security and for the men and women who sacrifice so much every day to keep us safe. There is no nepotism exception for background investigations.

Worse still was the White House’s oft-repeated lie that Kushner had been granted the clearance at the conclusion of a normal process. Reports indicate, moreover, that Kushner’s access to the nation’s most tightly held secrets, which require separate adjudication by the Intelligence Community, was restricted. This is a clear indication of the deep unease that national security officials have about Kushner’s suitability.

As part of its oversight of the Intelligence Community, the House Intelligence Committee will be working closely with the Oversight and Reform Committee to support their investigation into the White House’s security clearance process.

Jared Kushner’s Security Clearance Is About To Become A Huge Scandal

President Trump lied about ordering his son in law to be given a security clearance. The president’s daughter and senior advisor lied about how her husband got his security clearance. Intelligence officials deemed Kushner a security risk and did not want to award him access to the nation’s highest secrets, and former members of Trump’s own administration thought that Kushner should not have a high-level security clearance.

Adam Schiff Is Investigating A Serious National Security Issue

Take the family relationship out of the situation, and the problem for the country is that Donald Trump gave high-level security clearance to someone who endangers national security because they are compromised. Adam Schiff will be investigating a major national security crisis. Democrats have been suggesting for two years that there are serious dangers in how Trump is handing out national security clearances.

The Schiff investigation will be an important example of Democrats using oversight to protect the country from the Trump family.
