The Indictment Against Netanyahu Has Been Two Years In The Making
Netanyahu was first investigated in 2017 when he was suspected of taking illegal gifts from foreign and domestic businesspersons. In February 2018, Israeli police recommended that Netanyahu be charged with bribery in two cases.
The man who one of Trump’s few international leader friends now is in the middle of a Trump-like corruption scandal.
What happens to Netanyahu now?
Before the case can officially move forward, Reuters reports, “The actual filing of charges, which include bribery, fraud and breach of trust, will depend on the outcome of a required hearing, the Justice Ministry said in a statement. At that hearing – which could take place after the April 9 election – Netanyahu can try to persuade the attorney-general, Avichai Mandelblit, not to indict him.”
Netanyahu is accused of taking $240,000 in illegal gifts.
It is clear now why Trump and Netanyahu get along so well. They are two birds of a criminal feather. Much like Trump, Netanyahu has ruled out resigning, so Israeli voters who wish to clean up their government will have to do it themselves at the ballot box.
