Morning Joe Blasts Trump and DOJ for Silence Over Terror Plot

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough expressed outrage this morning over the deafening silence from Donald Trump and his Department of Justice (DOJ) over a U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant’s alleged plot to kill prominent Democrats and journalists — including the “Morning Joe” host himself.

Court filings have detailed a plot by Lt. Christopher Hasson to assassinate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and other Trump critics, including Scarborough — but the DOJ and the president have not made any public comments about the frightening case of domestic terrorism.

“Look at the headline: ‘Trump silent on plot to kill critics,’” the disgusted Scarborough said. “Let me say it again: Donald Trump silent on plot to kill critics.”

Scarborough then criticized Republican leaders for also remaining silent.

“I will ask Mitt Romney, you think it’s a cool idea that somebody is trying to kill Nancy Pelosi, trying to kill Chuck Schumer?” Scarborough said. “You work with Chuck Schumer. You think you should condemn that plot? Hey, Lindsey Graham, you run the Judiciary Committee, you think it’s cool? You think you might want to check with the Justice Department and see why, oddly enough, they’re silent?”

“They’re silent about this unbelievable uncovering of a plot to kill half of the Democratic field that’s running against Donald Trump,” he continued, “kill the top Democrat in the House, kill the top Democrat in the Senate, kill one of the top Democrats investigating Donald Trump, from a Coast Guard lieutenant who had been planning domestic terrorism.”

“Not a word from Trump, not a word from Mitch McConnell, not a word from Kevin McCarthy, not a word from the Justice Department,” Scarborough added. “That is pathetic, and, by the way, you know Trump — does he know what’s he’s doing? Does he know what he’s doing here, what he’s encouraging by remaining silent?”

U.S. authorities have arrested Hasson, who described himself as a white nationalist. Court filings said he had amassed a cache of weapons to “murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country.”

Yesterday Scarborough started yelling at a conservative guest who tried to say that Donald Trump was not to blame for his followers threatening or committing acts of violence.

Joe Scarborough is right: the lack of response from Donald Trump, the DOJ, and Republican leaders is pathetic. It shows that they don’t really care about making the country safe. All they care about is advancing their own partisan political goals.
