The President Of The United States has been caught trying to obstruct justice, by placing a Trump loyalist in charge of the hush money to mistresses investigation that has linked the president to multiple felonies.
The New York Times reported:
As federal prosecutors in Manhattan gathered evidence late last year about President Trump’s role in silencing women with hush payments during the 2016 campaign, Mr. Trump called Matthew G. Whitaker, his newly installed attorney general, with a question. He asked whether Geoffrey S. Berman, the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York and a Trump ally, could be put in charge of the widening investigation, according to several American officials with direct knowledge of the call.
Mr. Whitaker, who had privately told associates that part of his role at the Justice Department was to “jump on a grenade” for the president, knew he could not put Mr. Berman in charge since Mr. Berman had already recused himself from the investigation. The president soon soured on Mr. Whitaker, as he often does with his aides, and complained about his inability to pull levers at the Justice Department that could make the president’s many legal problems go away.
The NYT reporting is extensive and detailed on how Trump has tried to disempower federal law enforcement and derail investigations through a constant pattern of trying to put loyalists in powerful positions, and when that as failed, he has directly meddled and tried to obstruct investigations.
Innocent people don’t try to obstruct and derail investigations. People who have nothing to hide don’t spend their time attacking investigators. Donald Trump is trying to derail and obstruct investigations for one simple reason. He’s guilty. Trump can’t count on an investigation to exonerate him, so the president feels like he needs to kill the investigations as a matter of survival.
Trump and the White House are most afraid of Michael Cohen and the case in the Southern District of New York. That case has already resulted in Donald Trump being connected to multiple felonies. The most danger for Trump legally and politically is in the hush money case. The Times story is an important reminder that Trump is doing more than tweeting. He is obsessed and spending every single day of his presidency trying to shut down all of the investigations into himself, his family, his business, his associates, and his presidential campaign.
Donald Trump is actively obstructing justice, and he won’t stop until he is either removed or voted out of office.
