A judge ordered Sarah Sanders and the White House to return Jim Acosta’s press pass, and granted CNN a temporary restraining order against Trump.
CNN reported:
Federal judge Timothy J. Kelly sided with CNN on Friday, ordering the White House to reinstate chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta’s press pass.
The ruling was an initial victory for CNN in its lawsuit against President Trump and several top aides.
The lawsuit alleges that CNN and Acosta’s First and Fifth Amendment rights are being violated by the suspension of Acosta’s press pass.
Kelly did not rule on the underlying case on Friday. But he granted CNN’s request for a temporary restraining order.
The judge didn’t rule on the lawsuit itself, which is asking for permanent relief to prevent Trump from banning other reporters by finding Trump’s actions unconstitutional, but this initial ruling means that Jim Acosta will be back in the White House, and it also signals that Trump is going to have an uphill battle in winning this lawsuit.
The Trump administration has an unprecedented doctrine of presidential power, which boils down to a basic belief that the constitution doesn’t apply to the actions of this president. They used the same principle of the president can do whatever he wanted when they took Jim Acosta’s press pass, and they have been once again quickly smacked down in court.
The lawless Trump administration refuses to see that they are not above the law.
