Trump blamed special interests and the media for the Democratic takeover of that House that he is responsible for.
Trump said, “And last night the Republican party defied history to expand our Senate majority while significantly beating expectations in the house for the midterm year. We did it in spite of a very dramatic fund-raising disadvantage driven by Democrats’ wealthy donors and special interests and hostile media coverage. They set a new record and a new standard.”

Republicans didn’t defy history. When the midterm election cycle started, they were dreaming of 60 Senate seats, and they lost the Rust Belt Senate seats that they were trying to flip. As expected, Donald Trump is taking zero responsibility for the massive Republican losses suffered on Tuesday night.
This election was a nationwide rejection of Donald Trump. Republicans lost House seats and governors coast to coast. Picking up a few Democratically held Senate seats in red states does not mitigate the fact that Trump now is going to be checked at every turn by Democrats.
It was a massive defeat for Republicans that belongs squarely on the shoulders of a president who looked broken and defeated as he tried to concoct some silly spin about how this defeat is not his fault.
