With over half the votes counted in Texas, Democratic rising star Beto O’Rourke is so far outperforming in key counties all across the state.
According to MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki, O’Rourke needs to beat the nine-point margin Trump had in 2016 in order to upset Ted Cruz in the state, and some signs indicate that he may have a chance to do it.
Still, the race is too early to call.

As we saw in Florida on Tuesday, early strength for Democrats doesn’t necessarily translate to a runaway victory.
There are still a lot of votes left to be counted in Texas, but regardless of the final result, Beto O’Rourke has shown that the Lonestar State can be competitive, even with a progressive messenger.
That should worry Republicans heading into 2020.
