Chris Hayes put Donald Trump on blast on Monday night for leading a massive cover-up on behalf of the Saudi government after the murder of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi.
Even as Saudi Arabia is preparing to admit that they killed the missing journalist in an interrogation that went wrong, Trump said on Monday that he believed the initial denials.
“The king firmly denied any knowledge of it,” he said. “It sounded to me like maybe these could have been rogue killers. Who knows?”
The MSNBC host blasted Trump for trying to “set the stage for what very much looks like a cover-up of murder from the Saudi government.”
“The president of the United States took it upon himself to stand before the cameras and defend the honor of the Saudi monarchy,” Hayes said.

Chris Hayes said:
The president of the United States took it upon himself to stand before the cameras and defend the honor of the Saudi monarchy. … It’s unclear if the rogue killer hypothesis is something Donald Trump thought up on his own or if it came from Saudi King Salman or whether the president of the United States was trying to set the stage for what very much looks like a cover-up of murder from the Saudi government.
It’s all about money for Donald Trump
Trump has no moral compass. He cares only about how much others praise him or benefit his personal and financial interests.
As PoliticusUSA’s Jason Easley pointed out earlier, “Trump has been in the back pocket of the Saudi royal family for decades.”
Not even in the case of a brutal murder of a Washington Post columnist can Trump set that aside and do what’s right.
Ultimately, it’s important that Congress gets to the bottom of why Trump is shrugging off the murder of journalist and why, again, the U.S. president is siding with a murderous regime over American values.
