The Republican Party continued its full-on descent into madness on Wednesday as their newest talking point in defense of Brett Kavanaugh is that the allegations against him are a George Soros conspiracy theory.
In an interview with right-wing talking head Laura Ingraham, GOP Sen. David Perdue said folks who are protesting Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination are “paid activists” and that Republicans must “grow up and start playing defense.”
Of course, when he says playing defense, the Republican senator actually means they should just start making stuff up.
“These are not genuine people who are concerned about Dr. Ford or anything else, these are paid activists,” Perdue said with what we can assume is a straight face. “This is a George Soros conspiracy, and it’s time we wake up, expose them, stand up and fight for our country, because that’s what’s at stake here.”
Perdue isn’t alone. He is following the lead of Donald Trump and other Republicans who have reacted to the credible allegations against Kavanaugh by attacking the victims.
On Tuesday night in Mississippi – where else? – Trump, a sexual predator in his own right, had the nerve to mock Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s powerful and credible testimony.
“What neighborhood was it in? I don’t know. Where’s the house? I don’t know. Upstairs, downstairs, where was it? I don’t know. But I had one beer. That’s the only thing I remember,” the shameful president said at last night’s rally as his supporters foamed at the mouth in delight.
In the past, the type of rhetoric spewed by Sen. Perdue and many Republicans, particularly in recent weeks, would only be found in the most extreme corners of the political world.
Now members of Congress, hell-bent on keeping their fanatical base riled up before the midterms, have embraced dangerous conspiracy theories as a way to silence women and bolster their power on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Not only has Donald Trump and his GOP puppets in Congress created an alternative reality for themselves, but they have shown that they don’t value the voices of American women.
Whenever it looks like this president and his party can’t possibly go any lower, they grab shovels and start digging. They deserve to lose up and down the ballot in November.
