The FBI, Not Trump Or Republicans, Will Determine Which Kavanaugh Allegations Are Investigated

Donald Trump and the Senate Republicans won’t be able to rig the reopening of Brett Kavanaugh‘s background check as it will be the FBI, not the White House or Republicans who will determine which sexual assault allegations are investigated.

CNN‘s Manu Raju reported:

This is why Republicans Didn’t Want The FBI To Investigate Kavanaugh Sexual Assault Allegations

The FBI investigation means that Republicans can no longer run a cover-up operation for Brett Kavanaugh. The flow of information is no longer under their control. The gameplan for rushing Kavanaugh‘s nomination through was to limit examination into the nominee’s past. It is why there are tens of thousands of pages of documents from Brett Kavanaugh‘s time working in the Bush White House that has never been released.

It is why Republicans refused to allow an FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations. It is also why the nominee has been so evasive with his answers.

The purpose was to go through the motions of confirmation process while acting like nothing more than a rubber stamp to get Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court as quickly as possible so that Republicans can tout his confirmation as an accomplishment that they can run on to motivate their voters ahead of the midterm election.

An FBI examination is something that the Republicans can’t control. It slows the process down and takes the Kavanaugh nomination out of the realm of the partisan and puts objective facts on the table.

The FBI Investigation Is Everything That GOP Leadership Tried To Avoid

Republicans could have conducted the confirmation process the correct way. They could have followed the standards and norms of the process, but by trying to jam Brett Kavanaugh on to the Supreme Court they have made all they were trying to avoid a reality, and the Kavanaugh nomination has never been in greater peril.

Republicans tried to it the Trump way, and so far they have in typical Trump fashion spectacularly failed.
