Rock Star Michelle Obama Announces Her Stadium Tour

Former President Barack Obama received huge amounts of publicity last week when he went public with his criticisms of President Donald Trump. It marked the first time he has gotten involved in political issues since he left the Oval Office in January of 2017.

And now his wife, former First Lady Michelle Obama, has announced that she will also be in the public eye very soon. Yesterday she disclosed that she is planning a U.S. stadium tour to ten different cities.

This means Mrs. Obama will be appearing in large venues normally used for concerts by major rock stars, which is an indication of her continuing popularity with the public.

The stadium tour will also be a book tour since she will be promoting her upcoming memoir “Becoming.”

According to her event organizers the stadium tour will feature what they describe as “intimate and honest conversations with audiences.”

The former first lady will begin the stadium tour in her hometown of Chicago on November 13, the same day “Becoming” is released.

The promoter of the event, Live Nation, said the tour also has planned stops in Los Angeles, Boston, Dallas, New York and other cities. All venues are stadiums with seating capacities of up to 23,000 that are typically used for concerts by big-name performers.

“I’ve spent the last year and a half reflecting on my story as deeply and honestly as I could, and now I’m thrilled to travel the country and do the same with readers this fall,” Mrs. Obama said in a public statement released on Wednesday.

She described the book as “the story of my humdrum plainness, my tiny victories, my lasting bruises, my ordinary hopes and worries” on her Facebook page.

Ten percent of every show’s tickets proceeds will be donated to local charities, schools, and community groups in the cities that the tour will visit. Tickets go on sale on Thursday.

Both Michelle and her husband have signed individual book deals with Penguin Random House. The Financial Times reported that the joint deal was worth a record breaking $65 million, a figure the publishers have not confirmed.

The Obamas have also signed a deal with Netflix to produce movies and television shows.
