A new poll has found support among members of the Republican Party for Russian interference in the 2018 U.S. midterm elections. These Republicans believe it is OK to rely upon Putin’s government to try to help their party keep control of Congress in the fall.

The Yahoo Finance/SurveyMonkey poll that was released on Tuesday disclosed that 11 percent of Republican or Republican-leaning American voters in the survey said it is “appropriate” for Russia to try to help Republican candidates. Another 29 percent said it “wouldn’t be a big deal.”
To be fair, a majority of Republicans surveyed, 55 percent, said it was “not appropriate and it would be a big deal” for Russia to help Republicans keep control of Congress after the midterm elections.
Among Democrats, 86 percent called it “not appropriate” and a big deal for Russia to try to help Democrats, with just 14 percent saying it “wouldn’t be a big deal” for Russia to intervene on behalf of Democrats.
Among all American voters, 72 percent said they are “strongly opposed” to Russia assisting Republican candidates in the 2018 elections.
Trump administration officials have confirmed that Moscow is conspiring to meddle in the upcoming midterm elections and U.S. intelligence agencies have confirmed that Russia did interfere in the 2016 presidential election.
It was reported last week that Russian intelligence officers tried to hack the campaign of Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill (Mo.) with an attempted breach of her computers during her 2018 reelection effort.
Facebook on Tuesday also revealed a new coordinated disinformation campaign on its platform ahead of the fall elections. The social media company said it had removed over two dozen accounts from Facebook and Instagram involved in what they termed “inauthentic behavior.”
President Trump last week suggested he was “concerned” that the Kremlin would attempt to meddle in the midterms to elect Democrats. At a press conference in Helsinki earlier this month, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he wanted Trump to win the 2016 election.
“Yes, I did, because he was the one who wanted to normalize relations with Russia,” Putin said.
