Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement saying that Trump wouldn’t turn former Amb. Michael McFaul over to Russia for questioning just minutes before the Senate voted 98-0 in favor of a resolution opposing Trump.
Sanders put out a statement to the press saying, ” It is a proposal that was made in sincerity by President Putin, but President Trump disagrees with it. Hopefully, President Putin will have the 12 identified Russians come to the United States to prove their innocence or guilt.”
The Senate then voted:
98-0: Senate unanimously passes @SenSchumer resolution opposing former US Ambassador to Russia Michael @McFaul & other former and current US officials being made available for questioning by Russian government under President Putin. pic.twitter.com/b1tPxcgl38

McFaul tweeted:
98-0. Bipartisanship is not dead yet in the US Senate. Thank you all for your support.

Trump thought he had a fantastic offer from Putin, but the Congress and the American people have forced him to back down, as Putin will not get his way, and American citizens will not be turned over to Russia for questioning.
