Trump Is Keeping Hundreds Of Children In Cages At Texas Border Facility

The Trump administration has ordered that hundreds of immigrant children be kept in cages, 20 to a cage, at a border facility in Texas.

The AP reported, “Inside an old warehouse in South Texas, hundreds of children wait away from their parents in a series of cages created by metal fencing. One cage had 20 children inside. Scattered about are bottles of water, bags of chips and large foil sheets intended to serve as blankets. One teenager told an advocate who visited that she was helping care for a young child she didn’t know because the child’s aunt was somewhere else in the facility. She said she had to show others in her cell how to change the girl’s diaper.”

This is not America

Reporters were only briefly allowed to visit the facility, and they were not permitted to interview the detainees or take any pictures. This is not America. Children should never be separated from their parents and kept in metal cages in the hot Texas summer sun. These conditions are inhumane, and certainly a violation of international human rights laws. White House Senior Adviser Kellyanne Conway tried to blame Democrats for the conditions because Democrats will not vote to give Trump the funds to build more detention centers.

This is happening right now in the United States of America.

People should already be out on the streets, but it is likely that Republicans will ignore any and all public protests.

There is only one way to deal with what Trump is doing. The American people must mobilize to vote the Republicans out of office at all levels of government. Republicans aren’t going to respond to petitions or protests. They have ignored public protests of their unpopular policies for years. The Republicans aren’t going to change, which is why the protests over the treatment of these children must also contain a vow to vote any member of Trump’s party out of office.

Donald Trump and his enablers are committing crimes against children, and justice must be served at the ballot box.
