MSNBC reporter Jacob Soboroff is having none of the Trump administration’s lies about who is to blame for a policy that rips kids from their parents at the southern border.
Soboroff, who was among the first journalists allowed into one of the child incarceration centers, blasted off on the president’s claim that Democrats are to blame for the current humanitarian crisis at the border.
In a discussion on MSNBC’s AM Joy, he called the Trump administration’s claims “complete BS” and reminded viewers that “this has never ever been done before” under any administration – Republican or Democrat.

And by the way, it’s complete B.S. to hear the president, the attorney general, Sarah Huckabee Sanders say there’s nothing new about this, there’s nothing unusual about it or that it’s the Democrat’s policy. This has never ever been done before as a systematic policy to take kids away from their parents at the rate of 100% is the goal of the Trump administration as a matter of immigration policy. It’s just never been done before. It’s reminiscent of Native American children being taken away from their parents or children separated from their families at Japanese internment camps. This is not an immigration policy that we have seen before from the federal government before.
On Saturday, Trump doubled down on his lie, once again blaming the Democratic Party for implementing this cruel and anti-American policy. He claimed it’s their responsibility to end it.
In a tweet, the president said, “Democrats can fix their forced family breakup at the Border by working with Republicans on new legislation.”
But as Jacob Soboroff reported, this is not a Democratic policy. It’s not necessarily even a Republican policy. It’s a cruel Trump administration policy announced last month by Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who is now using the Bible to justify it.
On the long list of disturbing and indefensible things Trump has done to shred American values, ripping children from their parents at the border – and then blatantly lying about it – ranks among the top.
It’s important for the rest of the media to follow Jacob Soboroff’s lead and hold the administration accountable.
