In a searingly painful tweet, Cameron Kasky, founder of the student-led demonstration March for Our Lives in support of tighter gun control and student survivor of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, wrote on Friday after the Texas school shooting that President Donald Trump doesn’t care about your kids getting shot.

This very simple truth is something so horrific that we have a hard time facing what it means and what it says about this country and its president. But it’s vital that it be said and admitted. Donald Trump’s response was disgusting, “School shooting in Texas. Early reports not looking good. God bless all!”
Do you think he’s going gray worrying about your kids? Do you think he cries in private over the loss of other people’s precious children? The weight of being the president is not a burden to this man, because he only acknowledges the graft possibilities and the power. The responsibilities are not something Trump finds compelling at all.
Donald Trump does not care about your kids being shot. A president is supposed to care about the people. I can’t think of a president on either side of the aisle who didn’t care about children being murdered. This is a basic sign of a lack of humanity that speaks to a bankruptcy in morality that is so frightening it’s hard to articulate.
Here are the goals of March for Our Lives – check these out and ask yourself what is so hard about any of these goals:
Universal, comprehensive background checks
Bringing the ATF into the 21st century with a digitized, searchable database
Funds for the Center for Disease Control to research the gun violence epidemic in America
High-capacity magazine ban
Assault weapons ban
I’m not going to bother apologizing for holding Donald Trump accountable for the things he says and does, because the rest of the media spends its days doing just that and the only thing that will save this country is the opposite. This president and his administration need to be held accountable for the things they say and do, and the things they DO NOT DO.
A reminder: Donald Trump needed a cheat sheet to pretend to have empathy for survivors of the Parkland school shooting.
Donald Trump has done nothing real to deal with the horror of school shootings.
Donald Trump, a man so far from walking any religious beliefs that his prayers are a grotesque joke, offers nothing but these ugly, evil words steeped in fake Christianity to the families of slain children.
Donald Trump does not care about your kids being shot. And the truth is, neither do most of the Republicans in Congress. Not that they are on par with Donald Trump in lack of empathy, but that they are that self-motivated and greedy. That they are that protected by the cushy access oriented coverage of the beltway, even though they themselves are protected by the Secret Service and even so, got shot at during a baseball game and thus know the horror and have no excuse.
These are the people representing our country. The Trump White House is a horror show of ghouls pretending to be humans. In the face of unspeakable loss and tragedy that they have the power to make more difficult, they side with the manufacturers of the weapons of mass destruction in allowing even suspected terrorists to easily purchase a gun. After all, the only value they have is the all mighty dollar. Not even children come above that.
And where is Vice President Mike Pence, Mr. Leader of Far Right Christianity, in this morality failure? Enabling it.
