First daughter Ivanka Trump once again failed to live up to her role as a supposed champion for women in a NBC News interview aired on Monday.
Asked by Peter Alexander if she believes her father’s sexual misconduct accusers, of which there are over a dozen, she first pushed back against the question being asked in the first place and then proceeded to defend him
“I think it’s a pretty inappropriate question to ask a daughter if she believes the accusers of her father when he’s affirmatively stated there’s no truth to it,” she said. “I don’t think that’s a question you would ask many other daughters. I believe my father, I know my father, so I think I have that right as a daughter to believe my father.”
This is the latest instance in which Ivanka Trump demonstrates that she both wants to be seen as a supporter of women — during the interview she highlights women Olympic athletes and praises them as empowering figures — while doing the bare minimum, if anything at all, to concretely go against her father’s constant attacks on women.
While she’s right that most people would probably not bring up the question she was asked to most daughters, she fails to grasp that she isn’t just any daughter — she’s the daughter of the president of the United States. Not only that, she’s propped up as the feminist figure of the administration.
Obviously, given her track record and the fact that she continues to work for him, no one really expects Ivanka to denounce her father, but it’s important that she be asked questions like this so that people can see what kind of person they’re dealing with and don’t just buy into the feminist image being peddled by Ivanka and those behind her.
