President Trump is doing that thing he does so well- talking with great confidence about concepts he clearly doesn’t grasp in vague terms that mean nothing. For example, Trump hasn’t endorsed any specific proposal to address gun violence, other than arming teachers.
Arming everyone used to be a joke concept. It was a concept that TV racist Archie Bunker pushed to great laughter. Ronald Klain pointed out today, “Trump’s plan to arm teachers to stop school shootings appears to be based on this Archie Bunker plan to stop airplane hijacking by arming all passengers.”
On “All in the Family,” racist-know-nothing Archie Bunker is shown going on TV to demand his “God-given right” to have a gun in the house. To much laughter, Archie explains his simpleton thought process, “All you gotta do is arm all your passengers. They just pass out the pistols at the beginning of the trip, and then pick them up again at the end. Case closed.”

Here’s the clip of Archie Bunker sounding exactly like our now president:
Three plus decades later, the Archie know-nothing racist Trump told CPAC, “A teacher would’ve shot the hell out of him before he knew what happened.”
“It’s time to make our schools a much harder target for attackers,” Trump said. “We don’t want them in our schools. We don’t want them. When we declare our schools to be gun-free zones it just puts our students in far more danger.”
Earlier Friday Trump called for “offensive firepower”, which sounds a lot like a shoot-first policy. No way that could go wrong.

Trump and his fellow NRA lawmakers keep repeating convenient talking points about “gun-free zones” being so dangerous, thus the need to arm everyone.
Their talking points echo disgraced John Lott’s, whom Think Progress dubbed “the most prolific ‘academic’ in the gun debate.”
Think Progress wrote that a decade ago Lott’s claims that more guns equal more safety were repudiated and he was also caught pushing studies with “severe statistical errors on numerous occasions.” Also, “An investigation uncovered that he had almost certainly fabricated an entire survey on defensive gun use.”
After his public disgrace, Lott was brought back again after Sandy Hook as an expert and cited on platforms like the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, LA Times, Politifact and more, they observed.
So of course, the President who has revived a TV character making fun of the worst of America is pushing the exact same argument as a discredited, disgraced “academic.”
There is no “other side” to this story. There are dollars and greed on the “other side” of this story, and that is why Donald Trump is aligning with the NRA. The same NRA also being investigated currently for possible money laundering for the Russians to Donald Trump’s campaign. This is the same NRA that Trump called patriotic today.
When NRA lawmakers and this President talk about how we need more guns, the entire nation should laugh at them as we knew to do decades ago. The concept is a farce. It is nothing but a money heist by the gun manufacturers, sold by discredited fools.
