In an opening that is certain to push Trump’s buttons Alec Baldwin return to SNL to skewer the president as a lounging in bed Fox News junkie who needs affirmation and praise from Fox to function.
Video:
The ending joke of the cold open was the real gut shot to both Trump and Fox News:
Trump: Who is the most innocent guy in the whole world?
Fox and Friends: You are.
Trump: I can’t hear you.
Fox and Friends: You are!
Trump: Daddy needed that. He needed that.
SNL literally had Fox News leading cheers for Trump.
The other big joke was:
Trump: Right now I’m getting my daily intelligence briefing.
Fox and Friends: Oh yeah? From who?
Trump: You guys.
The sad thing is that SNL doesn’t need to parody Trump and Fox News. They can tweak real-life events, and the comedy writes itself.
Baldwin and SNL crushed it with the opening segments, and each one of these portrayals is writing in stone Trump’s pop culture identity as a lazy, pathologically lying know nothing, and Fox News as the sycophantic state-run television network that is keeping the fragile president propped up.
